My name is Nelson Cuadras and I am motivated by the power of using movement to heal.
I have seen, first hand, the power of daily movement providing relief for my symptoms of Tourettes Syndrome. My movement disorder reminds me that life is one big disorder. No two days are alike and nothing is perfect. I have seen the power of learning to overcome the challenges of a physical movement practice play hand in hand with overcoming mental challenges, most importantly, mental illness. I have fought and continue to fight my own depressions and movement has been the constant variable that has provided me feedback and insight into what ails me. Through this mirror, I have been able to better communicate with my internal self and find solutions to my struggles. I want others to find relief from their internal pains. Through perspective and communication, I know we can achieve this together for ourselves and others.
In order to do this, I know we can begin to destigmatize the conversation around mental health with movement as the tool. I have been lucky enough to have been exposed to the powers of movement through some great teachers and I am here to spread the values and knowledge they have shown me. In a world where fancy party tricks are applauded with thousands of likes and views on our favorite social platforms, only to be surpassed by the next flashy piece of content, I believe there is space for us to create lasting change for those effected by mental illness. By understanding those who are most effected, I know we can provide mental training that will allow anyone to get through life’s most difficult moments.
Want to help me spread awareness of the importance of movement on our mental health? Do you believe movement is one of the most powerful tools we have to learn and overcome both our external and internal challenges?
